Every weekend from mid-September through Halloween, Cedar Point marks the spooky holiday with scary walk-through attractions, parades, and fun treats just for kids.

Cedar Point amusement park on Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio, pulls out all the stops when it comes to celebrating Halloween. Attractions that are available during HalloWeekends range from tame costume contests for young children to bone-chilling, pee-your-pants-scary, open-air haunted areas that are teeming with "Screamsters," whose only purpose is to frighten the living daylights out of you.

Family-friendly HalloWeekends Entertainment

If you have young children in tow, there's loads of not-too-frightening entertainment during Cedar Point's Halloweekends. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, families gather along the Midway to watch the Monster Midway Invasion Celebration Parade.

"The Magical House on Boo Hill" is designed for children under 54 inches tall. It's not a "haunted" house, just a fun place where there are surprises around every corner. Sweet treats for the kids are offered on the way out. Guests 54 inches and under can also compete for prizes in a costume contest.

Live entertainment includes performances by Peanuts characters, such as Charlie Brown, Lucy and Linus, plus magic shows and "magicomedy" for the whole family.

HalloWeekends Entertainment for Tweens, Teens & Adults

The frightening attractions for older kids and adults is where Cedar Point really shines, er, "scares" during HalloWeekends. With names like Fright Zone, CarnEvil and Fear Faire, five different areas of the park are transformed into ultra-scary spots. Here, strobe lights and dense fog machines set the scene for pure terror. As you walk through these attractions, "Screamsters" are on hand to freak you out with their scary noises -- not only their cries of "Boo!" but also their rattling cans and chains.

While the Screamsters are forbidden to touch you, they don't have to make contact in order to scare you silly. They've been trained to make stealth attacks in the darkness--seemingly appearing out of nowhere from all different directions. Dressed in dark clothing and spooky masks or horrifying makeup, the Screamsters do a phenomenal job of frightening nearly everyone who walks by them!

Indoor haunted houses include Lair of the Vampire, Pharoh's Secret and Undertaker U. Children must be over 48 inches tall to enter these attractions, or they can be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Live entertainment that appeal to adults includes magicians, bands at the Red Garter Saloon, roaming fortune tellers and readings of classic horror stories.
