The Ohio Renaissance Festival opens Labor Day Weekend for seven weekends of medieval fantasy set in the historic era of the 16th century complete with Queen Elizabeth I.
Ohio Renaissance Festival welcomes festival goers to enjoy 16th Century England from August 30 to October 19, 2008. The weekend ren faire is open Saturdays and Sundays plus Labor Day. Visitors stroll the grounds in the 16th Century marketplace, enjoy the excitement of full armored jousting with dashing knights on magnificent steeds, food, entertainment and playful interactive fun with the cast of characters. Queen Elizabeth I and her Royal Court preside over the festivities, which include Renaissance musicians, dancer's jugglers, comedians, swashbuckling sword fighters, colorful storytellers, dancers and hundreds of costumed performers.
Entertainment is performed on the festival grounds and on 12 stages. There are nearly 100 shows every day the festival is open. Entertainment abounds at the Ohio Renaissance Festival. Must see entertainment includes The Swordsmen, Knights of Valour and Theatre in the Ground.
The Swordsmen: two itinerant gentlemen have sharp swords, quick reflexes and are able to balance comedy and the manly art of sword fighting.
Knights of Valour: Gallant knights in shining armor do battle in three jousting tournaments each festival day.
Theatre in the Ground aka The Muddle Show: Muditorium is where comedy meets earth as literary classics are presented with a comedic twist.
Theme Weekends
Ohio Renaissance Festival features Elizabethian characters, medieval times, festival entertainment and fun ever day the festival is open. Themed weekends add a different flavor to each weekend. Following are the themes for each weekend.
August 30 - September 1: Labor Day Weekend - Grand Opening Weekend is two for one weekend. Two tickets for the price of one means that two adults gain admittance for $19.99.
September 6-7. Kids Free Weekend. All kids get in free, as savings of $9.99 per child. Kids 12 and under celebrate the Queen's birthday hosted at the Royal Court.
September 13-14: Rogues & Blades Weekend. Tomfoolery abounds for fathers, sons and male friends. September 20 - 21. Hearts afire Romance Weekend. Couples renew their vows at a Mass Renewal of Vows ceremony at St. Peter's Chapel.
September 27-28. Pirates Weekend. Adventure seekers and pirates rad the village. There are sea chanteys, the Pirate Stunt Show and Pirate Pay.
October 4-5; Highland Weekend. Scottish theme weekend.
October 11-12: Harvest Festival Weekend. Fall colors and warm cups of cider all around in the village decorated with carved pumpkins.
October 18-19: Pleasures and Treasure Weekends. Crofters demonstrate their unique arts. Here is a chance to buy that one of a kind Christmas gift.
The Ohio Renaissance Festival is a chance to slip back into a historic era and get creative. The fair is part history and part fantasy. Festival goers often dress in medieval costumes and get into the fun.
Admission and General Information
Tickets can be purchased on line or at the gate. People who visit more than once, may want want to consider a season pass for savings.
General Admission Adults $19.99, Children (5-12) $9.99, children under 5 free.
The Four Person discount Combo Ticket Package offers savings. The ticket package, which is $90, includes f adult tickets, 4 Pepsi products of choice, 4 food entrees of choice, 4 Trauth Dairy Moo Malt Frozen Desserts and a coupon for 10% off of one souvenir. The four person package price increases to $100 per package on August 30, 2008. Each additional ticket on this package is $25.
The Season Pass, for $75, offers endless entertainment for people who visit the ren-faire several times during the season. Season passes are available on line, but are not available at the ticket office.
Two for one Grand Opening Weekend. Grand opening weekend is August 30, 31 and September 1. On opening weekend tickets are buy one get one free.
Parking fee is $2.
The Festival dates are August 30 through October 19, 2008, on weekends, including Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day. Hours are 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Renaissance Park is a 3 acre permanent village that has been authentically and historically recreated into an authentic 16th Century English Village during the reign of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth I.
Ohio Renaissance Festival is at Festival Park in Harveysburg, Ohio. Festival Park is conveniently located near Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus. The fair is just minutes off I-71 or I-75 on State Route 73 in Warren County.

This fair was nice once but it has started to loose its charm with poor maintenance and the decline of quality merchants. I do not think I will return as a patron. This is even more so now that there is an Ohio Renaissance Protest web site with a growing number of complaints.
