Places to eat in and drink by The Q in Downtown Cleveland

A listing of bars and restaurants near Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.

The Gateway District is the major entertainment center in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. With major sports venues Progressive Field (formerly known as Jacobs Field), home of the Cleveland Indians, and Quicken Loans Arena, nicknamed The Q and home of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the town is busy on game nights. The Q also hosts major concerts and other events during the year.

Many people like to come down early and have dinner, and the area has a number of bars and restaurants to satisfy your hunger and get you geared up for the game. Most are open well after midnight for a beer or snack afterward. After a local victory, the partying goes deep into the night.

Gateway is an area north of Public Square just off of Interstates 90 (the Innerbelt) and 77. The sports venues are on Carnegie and Ontario, and the restaurants are within a few blocks, mostly north toward Public Square.

East 9th Street Restaurants near Progressive Field

East 9th Street, or Rock And Roll Boulevard, is home to Local Heroes Grill & Bar, with a vast menu of sandwiches and salads. Just off East 9th on Bolivar are the Thirsty Parrot Caribbean Cantina, with a large patio which really rocks in the summer, and Wilbert’s, which advertises good food and live music.

Tucked away almost out of sight is the Gateway Sports Bar & Grill, a club and eatery that has a small patio.

Huron and Prospect Restaurants near Quicken Loans Arena

Just a block farther north is Panini’s, a casual restaurant famous for cold beer and grilled sandwiches with the fries inside, rather than outside the bun. Across the street is The Winking Lizard, a popular local chain with a large menu and a large patio.

Nearby is the Boneyard, famous for ribs and brews, A J Rocco’s Café, and Alesci’s Downtown, a new location for a long-time Cleveland favorite for homemade Italian food. The Clevelander has a large patio on the busy street.

Farther down Prospect toward Ontario is The Harry Buffalo, with many choices of wings and beer, Flannery’s Pub, offering the expected Irish food, spirits and music. Nick’s Sports Corner and Vincenza’s Pizza and Pasta are also on Prospect.

Restaurants near Gateway

On East 4th street is Pickwick & Frolic, famous for their variety of martinis. The House of Blues offers a great menu, and first-class entertainment on select nights.

Tower City is a short walk, and Cleveland’s version of the world famous Hard Rock Café is there, along with a food court.

There is, of course, food at Progressive Field and The Q. Progressive Field opens early to allow admittance to the Batters Eye, a bar area in center field. Bridges restaurant is in Quicken Loans Arena, and there are many concession areas with both.

Whatever your choice, you have plenty of reasons to come early and stay late when attending a game or event downtown Cleveland. Enjoy!
